We live in a time of endless possibilities. The Internet constantly lodas them on us, especially on social media, but also every time we click on news portals, watch YouTube videos and listen to podcasts. And we find ourselves thus glued to our smartphones. This creates new dependencies. To qualify those dependencies 2.0. new terms have appeared, among which FOMO and JOMO. What are they? Do they concern you? What is the Christian approach to it?
In 1873 August, the first missionaries Fr Gaudel SMA and Fr Pasquereau arrived at Port Nolloth, Cape Town, South Africa. They served few Catholics and others who were working the mines of O’Kiep, Springbok. After the couple of years, they moved to the place called Pella which was a fair prospect for a mission; they continued to stay there for 10 years. After these 2 missionaries, the other SMA missionaries came and served in Mossel Bay, George Town, James Town, Oudtshoorn and Pella.
The Society of African Missions (SMA) Silang community extended help to victims of Typhoon Odette, internationally known as Typhoon Rai, which wreaked havoc in six Philippine regions in December 2021. Typhoon Rai, locally known as Typhoon Odette in the Philippines entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on 14 December 2021 with peak winds up to 235m/hr. It made nine landfalls between 16 and 17 December in the provinces of Dinagat Islands, Surigao Del Norte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, negros Oriental and Palawan.

Tomorrow, we will gather to celebrate the 165th anniversary of the foundation of the Society of African Missions. I am sure that on this day that falls on the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, all of us will do our best to meet and spend it together - in our parishes, our communities, our houses of formation or retirement homes and in our families.

Rev. Fr. Antonio PORCELLATO, Superior General: I am at square 81 of the great cemetery of Rome, the cemetery of Verano. I am next to the tomb of the SMA. We came here again this year, on November 1 or sometimes on November 2nd, to pray and honor our confreres who are here. It is a tradition that is greatly appreciated by those who live in the house and those who pass by.
